Thanks to "Campy" for helping with the following pictures.

Below are our pictures from our first ride to the top of White Face Mountain. Unfortunately what we found was why they call it Whiteface Mountain. As we were riding up the roadway to the top we noticed white pine trees and kept wondering if it was ice. As the ride became colder and colder there was no doubt it was ice. The visibility at the top was zero so we decided even though we made it to the top we would make the trip again in a couple days. Hopefully it would be warmer and better visibility.

Yup, it's ice in June!

Campy thinks it's a little cold for June 6th.

The fog was so thick you couldn't see the castle until you were almost in it.

Get the point?

Enough Said!

They were not letting the motorcycles drive through to the rear of the castle due to the ice.

The real Whiteface.

The next day we enjoyed a nice "warm" loop around Lake George.

Rob and Angela

Rte. 9N along Lake Champlain, heading for Whiteface again.

The goal is in site and almost there. The castle to the right and the Weather Observatory at the top.

Looking back as we make the ride up the very bumpy roadway to the top.
Frost heaves made the road an obstacle course for any vehicle.

We made it! Much better visibility today and warm 54 degrees.

A quick walk to the castle and out the back we find the trail to the observatory. Just 1/5 a mile to go, on foot and up! Here is where you notice the air gets thinner with every step that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it.

As Mike and I trek to the top I take a much needed break to get a shot of the roadway leading up here. Okay I suddenly needed to take lots of "picture breaks" did I mention the thin air?

Breathtaking, well literally.

Looks easier than it is.

Learning to breath deeper and take more photos simply because I need more oxygen!

Wow almost there.

The trees are very short up here. With a short growing season heavy ice cover on branches combined with strong winds give branches and fragile tops of trees very little chance.

A quick look back just to see if I'm getting anywhere.

A well deserved break for Mike at the top

.

The view from the top is very much worth the trip. I look forward to doing it again.

Up here no birds just  bugs. I don't know why but its true.

There is a cloud catcher on the observatory that measures the water in the clouds. Huh? Whatever.

The trail back down to the Castle.

Back down at the castle and ready to return to Lake George.
